The summer of music at m2 continues on September 13 with a repeat performance by Ecuadorian-born guitarist Ivan Najera AND his brother Manuel. This will be a very special night for us at m2 - it's our first evening/after-hours event since we opened our doors back in 2006.
Ivan and Manuel played at the winery for our Artist Series Zinfandel release party this past June and just stunned everyone with their incredible music.
Don't just take our word for it. Read what others have said about Ivan's music...
""Ivan is a true professional and a real talent. His music and stage presence never fail to get the crowd on their feet." -Emily Delk, Special Events Manager, Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA
"Some of the most accomplished and innovative guitar works of recent times." -Pulse Latino, Tower Records magazine
"The perfect antidote to a stressful day." -Roger Hodgson, former Supertramp vocalist and songwriter
"Further proof that there is musical gold in these hills." -Terry Riley, composer
The performance starts at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited to 100 people. Tickets are $20 in advance (at the winery or on the web site.) Cellar Dwellers Club members get first dibs on tickets and pay only $15 in advance. Tickets at the door are $25.
Food and wines by the glass will be available at extra cost.
Our 2006 Clone Six Cabernet Sauvignon, (Napa Valley, Rutherford District) is a hell of a bottle of wine. It deserves it's own release event, and this is it. Be there.
Music by "The Esquires"
Chinapainting is guitarists Jim Goodin and Daryl Shawn, from New York City and Oaxaca, Mexico, respectively. The upcoming Chinapainting show is special in that it will be the duo’s second national tour and first time in northern California.
Jim and Shawn spontaneously create new material, drawing on everything from modern minimalism to glitchcore to free jazz, and even traditional folk and world musics. If you can picture the California Guitar Trio jamming on Terry Riley with Sonic Youth, remixed by Christian Marclay, you might begin to get a sense of the unique territory this duo is mapping out.
They have developed a musical relationship totally through the Internet, Jim in New York, Daryl in Oaxaca, using open-source software called NinJam, allowing them to create their music interactively in real time. Says Daryl of their weekly sessions, “We just freely improvise, no discussions or cues, nothing but the sounds from 3000 miles away coming out of our speakers and headphones to react to”. This guitar-based collaboration is enhanced by use of cassette tape loops, essentially creating a new instrument from the humble four-track recorder, as well as a few simple effects and the occasional inclusion of other acoustic instruments.
